With the support of the University of Toronto, Michael founded Inometrix Inc. in 2007. He has since played an integral role in the commercialization of Inometrix technologies, securing >$0.5M in grant and research funding. His research activities led to the development of Virtual Reference™ Interferometry, a key technology in the Inometrix product line. He has special interests in classical and quantum optics, photonics, interferometry, optical characterization, mobile sensing, imaging, nano-photonics, optics/photonics applications in space, advanced manufacturing techniques (additive manufacturing/3D printing), software/app development and systems design. He is also an avid science communicator with a keen interest in increasing the scientific/engineering literacy of the next generation. Michael holds 3 United States patents and is first author of numerous peer reviewed research articles. Michael brings over 8 years of experience in the development and commercialization of products and technologies. He holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto, where he was a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholar of the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council. He is also a co-founder of VidyaSmart Inc., a company focused on hands on educational devices for optics.
